Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any weight restrictions?
Are there any weight restrictions?
The weight limit for Airlie Beach is 110kg.
As of 18 January 2023, all tandem skydives require compulsory Personal Accident Insurance from the Australian Parachute Federation. Weight is an important factor in Skydiving and Aviation. It affects aircraft weights and balances, fuel allowances, climb rates and equipment maintenance. Once at the drop zone, all customers are subject to a fitness assessment by a Tandem Master. If a customer weighs over 94kg, Skydive Australia must be notified prior to the jump date and weight surcharges will apply (payable at check in).
Can I skydive if I am in a wheelchair or have another disability?
Can I skydive if I am in a wheelchair or have another disability?
Tandem skydiving is a well-suited activity for people with mobility needs as it is accompanied. The main consideration is how to get to and enter the aircraft. In most drop zones, people with disabilities can drive their wheelchair directly to the plane or helicopter. Alternative arrangements will always be made if direct access is not possible. Getting into the aircraft will always be done with the assistance of the instructor.
The skydiving company tries their best to accommodate everyone, but safety always comes first. A medical certificate from a doctor is required before skydiving, stating that it is safe for the person to participate with their disability. It is important to inform the company of any disability before making a booking. The company needs to know the kind of disability the person has and how the experience needs to be customized. They also need to know if the person is on any medication for their condition.
After receiving a booking confirmation, the skydiving company will arrange for the person to meet their Drop Zone Safety officer. The safety officer will run through the procedures that need to be undertaken before the skydive to ensure that the harness will fit correctly and without discomfort.
